WILD PITCH

About The Books
Wild Pitch: A Memoir of Baseball, Booze, and the Beast Within shares the raw and honest journey of Jeff Grose. As a boy, hurt by an alcoholic father, Jeff recalls, “I loved to see anything other than me feel pain.” Baseball becomes both his escape and his battlefield. “I walked the four blocks from our house to the field,” he remembers, chasing a dream alone. His life becomes a wild pitch, uncontrolled and dangerous. As he rises through the Mets’ organization, the "beast within" grows stronger. After baseball, Jeff’s world spins out of control, “a drink in one hand and a bag of cocaine in the other”, until he learns that life, like baseball, is a game of second chances. “You either win or you learn,” and Jeff finally learns.

Wild Pitch is a must-read for anyone dealing with addiction or helping others recover. Jeff’s story is heartbreaking but full of hope. It shows the ugly side of substance abuse, but also the beauty of healing. I’ll be recommending this book to my clients and colleagues.
Lisa T.,
This memoir made me think about how fathers shape their sons. Jeff’s story broke my heart. As a dad and baseball coach, it reminded me to always lead with love and care. The writing is raw, but the message is clear: forgiveness and healing are possible.
